Chiropractic Care

Diversified - after identifying which spinal bones have lost their normal motion or position, a specific manual thrust is administered to free up “stuck” joints.

Thompson technique is a system of analysis and a special table that reduces the amount of energy needed to adjust your spine.

Activator Methods® - this is a system of spinal evaluation combined with a handheld adjusting instrument that delivers a consistent, low-force thrust.

Flexion-Distraction Therapy - What is it?

Flexion-Distraction, (F/D) is a gentle, chiropractic treatment procedure utilized for back and neck pain. Flexion-Distraction is a safe alternative to back surgery for those 95% of patients whose conditions do not demand surgical intervention. The doctor is in control of the treatment movements at all times.

Flexion-Distraction is utilized for many conditions such as:

  • Failed Back surgical Syndromes
  • Disc Herniation/Ruptured Disc / Bulging Disc / Herniated Disc
  • Sciatica / Leg pain
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Stenosis
  • Arm Pain
  • Neck Pain
  • Failed course of Steroid Injections

How does Flexion-Distraction Work?

For Disc related conditions:

  1. Increases the intervertebral disc height to remove annular tension on the annular fibers and nerve by making more room and improving circulation.
  2. Allows the nucleus pulposus, the center of the disc, to assume its central position within the annular fibers and relieves irritation of the spinal nerve.
  3. Restores vertebral joints to their physiological relationships of motion.
  4. Improves posture and locomotion while relieving pain, improving body functions, and creating a state of well-being.

For Non-Disc related conditions:

Patients with other conditions causing back pain (facet syndrome, spondylolisthesis, sprain/strain, scoliosis, transitional vertebra, sacroiliac restrictions and misalignment, certain types of spinal stenosis), Flexion/Distraction provides all of the above benefits plus the ability to place the spinal joints into normal, painless movements so as to restore spinal motion without pain:

  1. The posterior disc space increases in height.
  2. F/D decreases disc protrusion and reduces stenosis.
  3. Flexion stretches the ligamentum flavum to reduce stenosis.
  4. Flexion opens the vertebral canal by 2 mm (16%) or 3.5 to 6mm more than extension.
  5. Flexion increases metabolite transport into the disc.
  6. Flexion opens the apophyseal joints and reduces posterior disc stress
  7. The nucleus pulposus does not move on flexion. Intradiscal pressure drops under distraction to below 100mm Hg. On extension the nucleus or annulus is seen to protrude posterior into the vertebral canal.


Teeter Inversion Table

Using a Teeter helps:

  • Rehydrate discs
  • Reduce Nerve Pressure
  • Realign Your Spine
  • Relax Tense Muscles

Re-hydrate discs: Damaged discs can take a long time to repair since they don't have a direct blood supply. Inverted decompression takes pressure off the discs, allowing them to widen and hydrate with nutrients that help expedite repair. The added cushion helps increase shock absorption and flexibility.

Reduce nerve pressure: Inverting on a Teeter has been clinically proven to increase intervertebral separation[1], helping to open up the passageway for nerve roots and alleviating pain caused by pinched nerves[2]. Those who experience sciatic pain can benefit from this aspect of inversion. Less pressure means less pain.

Realign: The back is supported by hundreds of ligaments and muscles that stabilize the spine but also hold it in compression. When the back moves out of alignment from bad posture, too much sitting, or rotational activities, this support structure holds the body in misalignment. Even while lying down, your spine maintains 25% of standing pressure, especially in your lumbar. In order to decompress, the spine needs a traction force of at least 60% of your body weight, roughly equivalent to inverting at an angle of 60 degrees on a Teeter[3]. This type of progressive decompression naturally re-aligns the weight-bearing skeleton, promoting good posture.

Relax tense muscles: Inverting to as little as 25 degrees for a few minutes can help relax muscles and speed lymph flow. A study conducted by physiotherapist L.G. Nosse found that EMG activity (an indicator of muscle tension) declined over 35% within ten seconds of inverting.[4]
